Sometimes I'm Spiky

Feelings can be tricky. One minute you could be happy and feel smooth and the next you could be angry and feel spiky! No matter what you’re feeling, it’s ok. When you acknowledge those feelings, learn to accept them, and start to vocalize them, you begin to realize they aren’t so tricky after all. When we come together, listen, and share.. it’s easy to roll along.

SOMETIMES I’M SPIKY

Feelings can be tricky. One minute you could be happy and feel smooth and the next you could be angry and feel spiky! No matter what you’re feeling, it’s ok. When you acknowledge those feelings, learn to accept them, and start to vocalize them, you begin to realize they aren’t so tricky after all. When we come together, listen, and share.. it’s easy to roll along.

BCT is extremely excited to bring you this BRAND NEW digital content as we all continue to stay safe and shelter in place. We hope you enjoyed our puppet show today! In an effort to bring theatre to the homes of children in Birmingham and beyond, Birmingham Children's Theatre will be producing a series of original puppet shows. On select Wednesdays at 9am, a 10-15 minute show written, performed, filmed, and edited by the BCT team will premiere on our Facebook page and here, on our website.

This show would not be possible without the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham!

Sometimes I’m Spiky uses shapes to identify emotions and feelings. When you’re angry, you probably feel pretty on edge and sharp and pointy and, well, spiky! Think about how you feel right now. How would you describe that feeling using shapes?

As humans, we experience a wide range of emotions EVERY day. Look back on your day. Can you identify the different emotions you felt? Were you happy or sad this morning? How did you feel after you ate breakfast? Chances are your mood probably changed a little. When we look back and reflect, we start to realize that no feeling is final and that can help us get through the bad ones. Think about all the emotions you felt today and draw shapes that you think reflect those feelings. Color them and give them faces!

Think about a time when you felt sad or angry. When you feel that way, what are some things you can do? What are some things you shouldn’t do? Write a story about what you did and how it helped or didn’t. Cut out the shapes you drew and use them to tell your story.. from spiky to smooth, from small to big, from flat to round.. what will your story be?

Have a great idea for a story? Email us and perhaps we’ll have a chance to work with YOU on a one-of-a-kind world-premiere puppet show!
